What is PDO Thread Lift and Skin Booster Procedure?

PDO threads are a revolutionary new treatment in the aesthetic world.

A PDO thread lift treatment is a minimally invasive procedure that lifts and tightens sagging skin tissue using threads made of Polydioxanone (PDO), a biocompatible material that has been used for decades in heart patients.

The threads are inserted into the treatment area by needles, penetrating the fat tissue and anchoring into the desired spot, lifting the skin upwards, or repositioning the skin to tighten the face.

Mechanically the threads are used to produce a subtle but visible skin “lifting” and “tightening” as it contracts fat tissue once placed in the subdermal area of the face.

Additionally, they provoke the body’s “healing response” and cause the body to direct large surges of collagen to treated areas. Both types of threads (barbed or smooth) work together to enhance skin texture, fewer fine lines and wrinkles and more elasticity to the skin.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE?

The treatment itself is quick – it should only take between 15-30 minutes.

WHAT AREAS CAN A PDO THREAD LIFT TREAT?

Because PDO threads are versatile, they can be used in many areas including:

  • Neck
  • Eyebrows
  • Jowls
  • Cheek
  • Crow’s Feet
  • Dark Circles under the eye
  • Nasolabial Folds
  • Marionette lines
  • Nose
  • Arms
  • Decollate
  • Knees

The cheeks and the lower face/neck are the most commonly treated.

HOW LONG DO THE PDO THREADS LAST?

The longevity depends on a number of factors, including the area of the skin, how much movement is present. Threads generally last about 9-12 months before they dissolve (4-6 months), however it’s possible to insert additional smooth threads after 6 months to preserve the life of the lift.

HOW SOON WILL I SEE RESULTS?

Results of the treatment using Barb or Mold threads for skin lifting and re-positioning are visible instantly after the treatment. For the smooth threads that are skin booster threads, they take about one month to see results from the collagen production. Collagen is the protein responsible for smoothing out wrinkles, plumping areas of the skin and filling in fine lines.

WHAT IS THE RECOVERY TIME FROM A PDO PROCEDURE?

Recovery from a thread lift is easy. The procedure for lifting is done using local anesthesia so thread lift patients can drive themselves and don’t need anyone to care for them. It is common to experience a little bit of soreness, redness and swelling but patients can go back to work or go about their day afterwards.

Patients will need to take some precautions while healing including sleeping on their back for a week after the procedure, no large facial movements, no large bites of food, gently face washing, no lifting heavy weights. Patients will receive post-care instructions after their procedure.

Thread lifts are a low risk, non-invasive procedure. There is virtually no risk of scarring, bleeding or other complications. In rare cases, patients may experience irritation, infection only if sutures become visible outside the area where the threads were inserted.

WHO IS A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR A PDO PROCEDURE?

For the right candidate, PDO threads can provide a pleasing, natural rejuvenation of the face. They may be combined with other procedures such as Botox, Fillers, Therapy, PRP, Kybella or skin resurfacing lasers.

Ideal candidates have medium laxity in their skin, show signs of aging and need a lift or skin boosting.

Patients who are seeing droopiness of the brow, cheeks, jowls and neck, patients who have had some relapse from a previous plastic surgery procedure and want a touch-up, patients who do not wish to undergo a surgical facelift or neck lift.
