Take Care of Yourself During the Holidays

The holiday season is already upon us, and yet, why does it not feel like “the most wonderful time of the year?”

With new cases of the COVID-19 variant Omicron rising, inflation rates going up, supply demands not being met, and everything else in between–it’s no surprise that the 2021 holiday season may seem more stressful than usual.

That’s why it’s more important than ever to take care of yourself this season and practice a bit of self-love and care during the holidays.

Here are five tips to help you take care of yourself during the holidays.

1. Make Time for Yourself

We know what you’re thinking…how can I possibly make time for myself during this busy season? With presents to buy, trips to plan, and social gatherings to consider or host (Yikes!), the holidays are the one time of year where it’s hard to find alone time.

So, we suggest that you schedule it into your daily routine–even if it’s only ten minutes! Get outside for a breath of fresh air, watch some tv, savor your coffee, chat with a friend, go for a walk . . . . Even ten minutes can positively affect your mind and health.

 

2. Exercise

During the holidays, it’s very tempting to skip your workouts or tell yourself that “being more active” will be one of your New Year’s resolutions; however, we strongly recommend that you exercise when you can. Staying active–whether it’s an intense workout at the gym or a simple walk around the block–can do wonders for your mental health and alleviate stress.

 

3. Drink Plenty of Water

Although this may seem like a no-brainer, you would be surprised by the amount of people who are not as hydrated as they should be. When we’re busy, we tend to forget to drink water and instead opt in for caffeine-related drinks such as coffee, soda, or energy drinks to keep us energized. The downside of drinking too much caffeine is that it can lead to tiredness, brain fog, and in some cases dehydration.

4. Take your Vitamins

Unfortunately, many people get sick around the holidays because of additional stress,  a poor diet, and insufficient sleep. That’s why we recommend boosting your immune system by taking your vitamins.
